Südtirol Gardenissima 2019: The enrolments are open

Entries are now open for the Südtirol Gardenissima! We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, March 30 2019 to close your skiing season in style!

This is the world’s longest giant slalom taking in the Seceda and Col Raiser pistes in Val Gardena in one exhilarating run. So hurry, as entries are limited to just 650. There’s also great prize money on offer for this GreenEvent-certified competition!

An exhilaratingly long run

The Südtirol Gardenissima starts at the top of the Seceda (2,518 metres) and finishes at the Col Raiser cable car station at Plan da Tieja (1,485 m), an incredible helter-skelter run of over 6 kilometres that includes an elevation change of 1,033 metres and 115 gates. And it all takes less than four minutes – the best possible way to feel like a real champion! Competitors start in pairs on parallel courses which after a kilometre merge into a single giant slalom run.

How to be part of the big event

As we said above, entries are now officially open! You can enter by completing the entry form available on the event website (www.gardenissima.eu). The Gardenissima is open to skiers of all levels but all entrants must hold a medical certificate of fitness to compete and a FISI membership card. But don’t hang around too long as entrant numbers are capped at 650!
On completion of the entry process, competitors will receive a great race pack, a 50% discount on a one, two or three-day Val Gardena/Alpe di Siusi ski pass (Friday, March 29, Saturday March 30, Sunday March 31) and a permit for one inspection run (outside the gates) between 6.45 and 7.45 am on the day of the race.

Prize money

The total prize money is in excess of 40,000 euro and is split between the various categories as laid down under the rules. First prize is 5,000 euro, with 1,200 and 500 euro worth of vouchers going to the second and third-ranked athletes respectively. The top three athletes in each category will also receive prizes (medal and prize) and there are also various special prizes (from which the World Cup athletes are excluded) of hampers of Loacker products, Dolomiti Superski season ski passes and weekly Val Gardena/Alpe di Siusi ski passes for the Kids event.

A sustainable event

By their very nature, all events have an impact on the environment and this is why the organisers place particular emphasis on sustainability in their planning of the Südtirol Gardenissima. The main factors in this process were sourcing local partners where possible, using materials that could be reused for other events in the district, waste management, using recycled paper for printing and energy from renewable sources, choosing seasonal, local produce where possible and, last but not least, social responsibility. This level of commitment has earned the Südtirol Gardenissima permission from the Bolzano Provincial Agency for the Environment to use the “GreenEvent” mark, an important acknowledgment of the committee’s focus on offering a mix of sport and fun that works in harmony with nature and the local landscape.

Kids are welcome too!

As an add-on to the Südtirol Gardenissima, Südtirol Gardenissima Kids takes place the following day, Sunday, April 2. Open to all children born between 01/01/2005 and 31/12/2012, it is divided into “Superbaby”, “Baby”, “Cuccioli” and “Ragazzi” (Superbaby, Baby, Cub and Kids) categories. The course retraces the first part section of the main run, with the start at 2,518 metres at Seceda and the finish at 2,055 metres: the distance is 2 km, an elevation change of 463 m, 62 gates. A fantastic opportunity to share a weekend of sport with all the family!

Looking forward to seeing you!
